True Blood

Admittedly, I am a sucker for a vampire story, well a good one, anyway, and True Blood seems like it’s going to deliver. The new HBO series is an adaptation of a series of books called the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. It focuses on a Louisiana town after vampires have come out in the open due to the creation of a synthetic blood product (Tru Blood) that meets their needs. A world where vampires have become part of everyday life and the response of humans to that is an interesting one to me, so I’m getting taken in by this series. It also helps that it has heaping doses of both horror and sexiness, I suppose.

I was able to obtain the series of novels in ebook format to my delight. I’m making my way through the first of them. I like it. It’s been awhile since I’ve read any vampire books, to be honest. So many of them seem to be copies of better works, so I sort of lost interest in them over time. Harris seems to be tackling the concept of a world with vampires in a bit of a different way, so I’m enjoying the book so far.

According to ye olde Wikipedia, True Blood is going to be a season of 12 episodes. I’m hoping that it goes on a bit longer than that since there hasn’t been a good vampire series on TV for a long while. And who can’t love a show where the opening theme is its own bit of sexiness, eh?
